Seattles Best

Bellevue, Wa

This is not Seattle's best coffee... But it's coffee so it will do.

I am out in the Bellevue area and while it's nice and Northwesterly- it's homogenized like every other suburban place in America. Red Robin, Ruth Chris, Thomasville Galleries and the every so charming Cheesecake Factory along with all the other trappings of blandness I can get at home. I love being out here but wish were we were downtown in the actual Seattle proper area. I stayed downtown a few years ago and had some of the best coffees ever, from local roasters with no advertising budget other than word of mouth. Today, I kicked off a week in Seattle with a long early morning walk and coffee in mild 54 degree weather. Just being outside without hat, gloves and heavy coat made the sting of staying in suburbia go away.

I miss Seattle, though this isn't the Seattle that I knew. I stayed in the older part of town, and for nowhere near long enough. These buildings all probably post-date my time there. I think you've nailed the "vibe" with the focus on the cup. Seattle really is Starbucks. OK, and Microsoft. Yes, and (formerly) Boeing. And bookshops. But with that weather (which I like), coffee is its beating heart.

Coffee is the most important food group. Never been to Seattle but it is on my shortlist for this year.

Good night shot! I love the lights all around. You speak the truth about the Blandness... more to add... Kohls, Home Depot, CVS... numbing sameness. V
