Hi Doug. Amazing the power of Google in finding you after 30 plus years, when I suddenly recalled the few classes I took of yours at CLC, including a field studies course out to Mt. Rainier. You were an inspiration to me in developing a love for photography, especially in scenics and wildflowers. I'd love to connect again sometime if you're interested in catching up. Best wishes. Steve.

Doug, Very impressed with your photos. Would like to know what equipment you use. How do you get such clarity, slowing the shutter speed?

Thank you so much for your knowledgable art! Loved the glaciation series as I recently discovered catastrophism in geology. What a pleasure to see these and imagine that I am there.

Hi Mr. Sherman, This is Eric Gofreed. I saw you at a Sedona Camera Club meeting. You were the guest speaker. I may have seen you a few times since... I'm sure you remember me. Enough teasing. Love your work. Incredible and World Class Photography, Doug
Gary Bell 20-Feb-2016 05:26
Hi Mr. Sherman, this is Gary Bell, I had geology class with you at CLC and went on the Mt. St. Helens field trip with you in the summer of 1981. I wanted to thank you for inspiring my love of geology. I've been to 49 states, 23 National Parks and 33 other units of the National Park system. All of them for the beauty of geology. Thank you!
Chris Knebelsberger 11-Feb-2016 03:55
Hi Mr. Sherman, This is Chris Knebelsberger (Torgerson now) and I took a couple of classes of yours at CLC in the early 80's, and I went on a couple of those Field Geology trips, too. (That's when I met Sharon Bell, and we've been friends ever since.) You, Dave (I don't remember his last name), and I would also like to go on nature photo shoots together. I still enjoy photography and would like to get into it again and make it my hobby. Anyhow, I've been living in AZ for 30 years. Isn't it a beautiful state? So many gorgeous places to photograph. : )
Sharon Bell 11-Feb-2016 00:45
Mr. Sherman; This is Sharon Bell, your former student at CLC and if you recall, in the summer of 84' we took the geology and botany class out west!! My brother is Gary (who also had you) and I am still dear friends with Chris Knebelsberger!!!!! All of us would love to reconnect with you!!!

Hi Mr Sherman

I brought up your name the other day while discussing, "who were on your short, list of the best teachers ever". I remember taking every one of your classes, in those temporary, trailers at CLC, while construction was going on. You opened my eyes to this wonderful earth, and I never looked at a rock the same again!

I'm happy you are doing well in your retirement years and your photographs are fantastic.

ps: Thanks for outlining those class notes on the chalk board, you made me a great "outliner"!

Regards
Dan Fendick

Doug, I would like to obtain your permission for the one-time use of your recent photo of the mountain lion petroglyph as a cover image for a chapbook of poems about animals. The chapbook will be a free download and is intended for both adults and children. I could include a link to your site so others could be led to your work as I was. Thank you for considering this request. Sincerely Yours, Professor M.V. Montgomery, mv.montgomery@yahoo.com

Hi, I am writing a book about the confusion between art and design and would like to reproduce in this book your photo:(STRA36) Cross bedding in Jurassic Navajo Sandstone, North Coyote Buttes, AZ . It can be used as a superb metaphorical image about stratification of knowledge as precondition to stratification of objects of any sort.
thanking you,
Prof. Tsion Avital tsionavital@bezeqint.net

Doug, I've followed your galleries for quite some time now and really enjoy them. I've been thinking about planning a trip to Sedona, AZ and was wondering for a person with limited time, what areas should I concentrate on to get the "best bang for my buck"?

Hello, I am a freelance photo editor working on a project for the Death Valley National Park. I am looking for an image of evidence of the Pleistocene-era lake in the Panamint Valley. Is that shown in your image "(CG31) Pluvial delta and strand lines in Panamint Valley, CA?" If so, I would like to propose it to the park for their new outdoor wayside exhibit panel on Panamint Valley.

Please let me know and thanks, Kris Hanneman

Hello- I would like to use your image of Lake Powell and Navajo Power Station in an environmental physics text I am writing for my students- I would of course attribute. I wanted to take the same photo when we passed through the area in April but didn't search out a good enough vantage point - from which location did you get the shot??

PLMK- thanks,
Don Mathewson

Hey Doug. Love the new shots from fall in CO. Makes me wish I'd made the trip. Nice work as always. Went up to UP instead because I have to be out in CO to speak on the 30th Oct. Nice color, but late. Real late. But your NE shots make me wish I'd gone East too. Take care. Hoping Joe will email me his shots soon.
