One day on the flats I could see up to seven short eared owls flying at once and another photographer said he had seen up to 11 flying at one time that same day. A few days later I went back and the numbers were down, I assumed they had migrated on south. Turns out, talking to birders here in town that the airport staff have been killing them, total count seems to be at least 15 short eared owls so far. It is unfortunate because these are beautiful birds are so much fun to photograph and watch.
