This is a view of the Lâlâ Muslihiddin Paşa Mosque, a 12th century mosque, with a Türbe or grave monument next to it. The latter is much higher than is the rule, I came across a text indicating it was built earlier than the mosque. This late 12th/early 13th century mosque was built by Lâlâ Muslihiddin Paşa (Lâlâ = educator/private teacher of a prince). His tomb is adjacent to the mosque. Later on, as the term ‘Lâlâ’ became less used, the name was turned into one everyone understands: Lâle (= Tulip). It is a quite large, rectangular building (32 x 33½ m), a basilica (or: pillar hall) with seven naves. The mosque was restored several times, last in 1968-70.
