The life story of a certain Julie Cope is shown (on the Maastricht exhibition, not in Istanbul) in some carpets but also some other materials. I show it here.

She is an ordinary, twice-married fictional Essex woman, born in Canvey Island and raised in Basildon, who died in an accident with a pizza [elsewhere I read: curry] delivery scooter. Julie is an Essex everywoman, “a shopping mall Madonna... with a kick-ass spirit” who also happens to be the creation of Essex-born Perry. Her fictional life and untimely death is recorded in his narrative poem, The Ballad of Julie Cope."

The works can be found in a house in Essex (check: Essex House to find more on the web) that Perry designed. Perry: "She is born on Canvey Island in the great flood. She lives through the 1960s; when her kids grow up she goes to uni and becomes a social worker. She marries again and this time her husband is in IT and pretty wealthy, so they move up here, to the wealthy end of Essex. He builds the house in her honour, as a sort of Taj Mahal after her death. When you come into the main entrance there is a mosaic on the floor with two footprints: that’s the spot where he stood when he found out she had died." And: “It’s in a little hamlet, the last property in the village of Wrabness, as you walk down a path to the River Stour. It was an old farm- house. We knocked it down, and started again.”
