These pictures are the result of a stroll I made, strating at the Ulu Camii, than along the main street onto the square where there is the city museum and the usual Atatürk on horseback (I think this square, like the one in Ankara, is called heykel, for "statue"), then uphill through some very ordinary neighbourhoods, crossing a rivelet, descending again.

This is part of the square east of Ulu Camii. The authorities have allowed a big bill-board (the ones that can show films due to led-technology) to be erected, that will ruin the pictures of people who, like me, like an old look and feel on an olde square. I must not complain, I think in my home town of Amsterdam the largest of these signs of the whole of Europe has been erected (I have not dared look) on a square that looked fine when I was young but has been turned into something terrible by now.
