Kars building

view map

One of some old slides (1998) I scanned and edited anew in 2018. The Kümbed Camii, a mosque. Or rather, its name translates as "domed mosque", but it was built as a church under Abbas I in 930-937

This is Armenian Church, no doubts. The only thing is that turks removed the Christ from the roof and put something that does not belong there . Kümbed in Amenian means dome. All Armenian churches have the same domes.

Dick you are so funny, I love you. ;) I dont mean funny for saying funny things, but just the way you get mad about people living some comments and then letting them do so.

I leave the comment, since it's correct. On the other hand I would appreciate it if people would NOT use this site too often to bring their opinions on Turkish history and policy to the attention of the world. I think other fora are more appropriate, and it clutters the site.

This is the Armenian Church of Kars which was converted to a mosque in 1998. The cultural genocide of the Armenian Heritage in Turkey has converted, destroyed and desecrated more than 2000 Armenian cultural monuments from 1915 - today.
