Ankara monument liberation war

view map

At the square of Heykel (monument, statue) is an equestrian statue surrounded by some heroes of the war of liberation. I have seen worse monuments, and in the evening it made for some fine pictures (if you like the genre).

A viewer wrote I might be a bit arrogant with these last words "if you like the genre". I think he is right. I do not like the wishywashyness of people who will not critize a thing because other people might like it. I think a lot of bullshit is produced, and I do not hesitate to name it that. In doing so I will be arrogant in some peoples eyes. Too bad.

Elsewhere I have written that there is a deluge of statues being erected all over the country during the last couple of years, and some bring tears to my eyes. In this particular case I referred with my "genre" to the genre of heroic equestrian statues (and then photographed in artificial light at night). I have had the pleasure of seeing some of the Renaissance highlights in Italy, and compared to them this is mediocre. But not bad at all. But if you want to see something really bad in my eyes check athttp://www.pbase.com/dosseman/image/87214947 for a "Peace" monument.
