Figure of vultures
Painted plaster ornament, Çatalhöyük, 6000 BC
This figure is one of the first representations of the relationship between vultures and death. Vultures are seen pecking at the flesh of bodies which are distinctly lacking heads. Archaeological finds do not so far indicate that people at Çatalhöyük exposed their dead for excarnation in this way however
