Alaca Höÿük (Wikipedia: Alacahöyük or Alaca Höyük (sometimes also spelt as Alacahüyük, Euyuk, or Evuk) is the site of a Neolithic and Hittite settlement and is an important archaeological site. It is northeast of Boğazkale (formerly and more familiarly Boğazköy), where the ancient capital city Hattusa of the Hittite Empire was situated.)
See my Alacahöÿük gallery to know how many of these orthostats were originally positioned.
On the picture: A procession of state officials, honoring the goddess Hebat (enthroned, on the left, but not visible on this picture). A relief from the Southern Gate (Sfynxes’ Gate) at Alaca Höyük.
Andesite (a kind of basalt), height: c. 120 cm. Hittite, 14th century BC.
