Ankara june 2011 6905.jpg

The Storm-God. Detail of a relief depicting the Storm-God and a hero/king (?) killing a lion.
From the ‘Heralds Wall’ in Carchemish/Karkamış (on the Euphrates River and on the Turkish-Syrian border, c. 25 km south of Birecik). Dated from the reign of King Katuwa (c. 900 BC).
Neo-Hittite, traditional style (except for the beards, which are Aramean).
This upper left corner of the relief is replicated from the original that is currently in the British Museum.
