A niche one sees shortly after entering, with what must be a place for burial.
At a site (www.stnicholascenter.org), dedicated to the saint, as part of a discussion that several tombs have been seen as the one occupied by the saint, one can find "The tomb [below] is also named as St. Nicholas’ original tomb. Tsar Nicholas I, who restored the church in 1862, had the Troparion to St. Nicholas carved into stone and placed over this tomb."
