This is the reconstruction of what were hundreds of fragments. Together they once decorated the podium of the third floor of the stage building of the Perge theater. 13 sections are on display. The gods are fighting the giants, either from carts drawn by animals or directly, feet on the ground. Some of the gods are accompanied by mythological characters, so a satyr and Pan follow Dionysos, whose cart is drawn by the habitual panthers. The gods are seen moving from two side towards a central spot, so it is assumed that there was a particularly important subject in the middle of the frieze.

The frieze is dated (because of the way it was carved, stylistic elements) to the reign of Emperor Gallianus (250-265 AD), when the theatre was renewed.

I took pictures again in 2015, many on high ISO's (hence more noise), and went fro cooler and more natural colours than in a previous edit.

The theatre held also a centauromachia, a struggle with centaurs, from the same period. I did not find it displayed, it may be still being restored.
