The Tybee Lighthouse and a walkway to the beach on the North Coast of Tybee Island

The Tybee Lighthouse has been guiding mariners safe entrance into the Savannah River for over 270 years. This lighthouse is one of the most intact in the U.S. having all of its historic support buildings on its five-acre site. It has been rebuilt several times. A new tower was built on top of the old tower in the mid 1800's and electrified in the 1930's. The lighthouse and support buildings is open to the public. There are 178 stairs to the top of the lighthouse.
