Many historic houses in Savannah like this one are open to the public.
The Sorrel-Weed House was built for a wealthy shipping merchant. General Sherman and General Robert E. Lee were entertained in this house. The opening scene of the 1994 film Forrest Gump was filmed from the rooftop of this house.
