This Complex has manicured gardens and beautiful, ornate buildings including the Royal Palace which is the home of the king of Cambodia, Norodom Sihamoni and his family. The King mostly is a ceremonial figurehead. The building shown in this photo is Throne Hall which is used for ceremonies, coronations and the presentation of credentials by foreign diplomats. The main tower of Throne Hall was inspired by the Bayon Temple which we saw in the Angkorian Archaelogical Park in Cambodia. The Khmer Rouge destroyed many of the items that once were displayed in Throne Hall.
The Royal Palace Complex was established in the mid-1800's but attained its current general form around 1920.
