Nike embraces flexibility but goes a step further with Flynit, emphasizing the lightweight material component, as if the shoe is an ultrasonic test jet. Look, ethos aside, it's going to be a spectacular shoe in merit and in sales. The market has reacted:

I LOVE the photo called "Flowers" - the one that was chosen by the Portland Flower Show 2008 Poster.......with the clothes hanging on the line and the flowers in the forground.
I just love looking at this scene
I can almost feel the sun and the gentle breeze on my face.
I can smell the freshness of the clothes.
I can hear the wind rustling the leaves.
....the bees making their way throughout the flowers.
A photo that makes you FEEL the experience of the image......
is a GREAT photo.

I HATE visiting your galleries!!!! Everytime I do I am reminded of a time when I lived just up the street from Nubble Light in an A frame. Your images are truely incredible. I miss that place so much. I remember walks on York beach and scuba diving at the base of Nubble. I was back there a few years ago and it has changed so much. Multi million dollar buildings cantilevered out over the water. Your images are by far the best I have ever seen of Nubble Light. Keep up the great work and thanks for visiting my galleries.

Hi Don! You asked about a picture in my aviation gallery some time ago...I just now saw it. The airplane is a 747-200. And OE means Operational Experience, when a person goes fly the line with an instructor when finished with simulator training. I enjoyed looking through your galleries...you have some great pictures too.

I appreciated the comments from a great photographer like you!! I am living in Hong Kong which is crowded with 7+ million people. We are still lucky enough to have about 200 species of butterflies found in Hong Kong. I will keep shooting and share those nature's treasure with others.

Hi donald, thanks for your visit to my pbase.. You asked about my processing.. I shoot Raw, and for web use, I convert to jpeg, edit in PS CS, adjust the curves, some USM, and neat image if there is noise., I clone out branches when I need too, and do some cropping also.

You have beautiful images here, thanks again! and take good care.

Thank you very much for your comments!. Regarding my web site, I'm still working on it. I'm using dreamweaver 8 to develop the web pages. Also I used a photo gallery module from comdevwebhttp://www.comdevweb.com/photogallery.php . It's very affordable, you can see my testimonial on their site:http://comdevweb.com/testimonial.php . ALso on their featured clients:http://comdevweb.com/feaclient.php?product=PHOTO. They will help you to set it up and integrate it into your site. Best regards, Pablo Avanzini. Good luck.

Really love your work, wonderful!

To answer your question about my egret photo. I was from a local park. The sunset reflected from the water makes the nice background. And the egrets are busy to get their dinner. I was luck enough to get his one. It is almost a full frame. I forgot if i crop or not, but even if i did, it will be less than 10%. thanks again for your comments.

Thanks for the the comments on my northeast Oklahoma wildlife shots. There is not much here to compare to your great New England scenes. I have found that beating the bushes on a regular basis reveals so many things that went unobserved for many years.

Don-Great work. Only a local guy could get this many great shots of the lighthouse. Some are outstanding and really capture the "magic of mother nature" along side mans work.

Donald, it was a pleasure to spent time shooting pictures with you at the light house yesterday. your work is fabulous, I love the way you play with the light and your composition. I had a great time in Vermont, Maine last week even though most of the color is gone..

Well Mr. Verger:
I have spent many happy hours with "your images" They are wonderful. I am sure you know that. I know little of photography. how that magic is accomplished, but I do know that you seem to be able to capture in an image part of what it felt like on that day, in that place at that tmme, and to be able to do that is very very special...

Thank you

Donald

You've a wonderful gallery here that is filled with "real life". While visiting your gallery, I felt as if I was there interacting with people and even viewing the barns in person. One thing that really amazes me, is how well you photograph with the Nikon 4500. I love the swivel design (I own a Nikon 900s), however I never generated photos as nice as yours. It is very obvious that you are very adept at capturing and relating moments in time to others. Good work! Sincerely, Teila

Thanks for your comments in my Simplicity gallery. I keep hopping back and forth between doing "normal" and more abstract stuff as I try to improve, and it's great to see what people respond to. I actually didn't think too much about that leaf photo at first, but it's become one of my favourites over time... I'm at work right now and can't really delve into your galleries, but they look wonderful and I will certainly take a close look when I have the time to give them the attention they clearly deserve.

Don Verger, regarding the Richard Calmes photograph of the oddly yet stunningly posed beautiful ballerina.......... http://www.pbase.com/image/60682673
A story behind her, Talk about a life challenge, Her name Whitney Sue, an aspireing Prima Ballerina who was involved in an auto accident experiencing the same type injury that actor Christopher Reeves experienced (Broken Neck).
She was in an automobile accident 3 days after Richard Calmes (PBase member) took this shothttp://www.pbase.com/rcalmes/image/53659817 She broke 2 vertabrae-same as actor, now deceased, Christopher Reeves.
She had to wear a halo device for 5 months.
It was screwed into her skull.
She could not shower or wash her hair for fear of infection.
After the halo came off, she wore a collar for 3 weeks.
She got the collar off on Monday (Recently).
Her extreme strength and conditioning are the reason she was not paralized the doctors say.
She wanted to take part in the shoot with the girls she has been so close to so Lisa (co-ordinater) put her in the pose you commented on.
Richard calls the pose the "I'm back" look.
(I call that pose stunning and it was created for her)
She is very well known throughout the USA and Europe as one of the most promising young dancers. She was going to Juliard this fall.
Now she has decided (wisely) to take the next year to get back in shape.
She will attend Georgia State and go to class every day.
You can see how beautiful she is.
And she is a beautiful person!

Hi Donald. Many thanks for your visit encouragement and vote. I have been toying with idea of selling cards for a long time and have had a lot of satisfaction making them by hand. I didn't print them myself, my printer is not good enough and it was actually very cheep to get the done commercially, 13 cents per foto.
Thanks again Cheers Dougie

Don, your work is "Uhdahn Kaselel!" I wish I can view this island through your lense. Everyday, I asked myself, "What the heck am I doing here?" but then your pictures remind me that I had once wanted to come back to paradise. Maybe we'll meet in New York soon.

Don,
I love looking at your work. About the 13 photos you have for your 12 month calendar...maybe use all of them? Make #13 the cover. I look forward to placing an order!
Guest 16-Sep-2005 16:23
Don, your photos are exquisite. You know what would be wonderful, given your eye for color study? How about a calendar based on the color wheel? You could divide the seasons by color groupings...eg, winter could be for 'analogous' colors (adjacent colors on the color wheel), like blue, blue/violet and violet, summer could be for color triads made from equilateral triads like red, yellow and blue, spring could be for triads from isoscoles triangles, like red/violet, yellow and green, and fall could be for "quadratic" chords based on a square, like red, yellow/orange, green and blue/violet...just an idea and maybe way too complicated...but interesting... Have you seen Johannes Itten's 'color star'? I have a color wheel based on it which provides great inspiration about color schemes and harmonies...

I met your wife in gallery 302 the other day. She really likes my tulip painting. I asked her if you would be interested in bartering with me : I would barter the tulip painting for two of your works: the picture of Crescent Lake and one of the lady of marble with the piece of blue sky (if it is available). Let me know what you think. We each would have to pay the gallery's 17 %, right? Linda PS I upped the price on the tulips because I wanted to make sure your wife got first refusal...I will put it at $225 for you.

Don...thanks for the warm compliments on pictures. Considering the quality of your cloud and sky images I feel I'm in excellent company with you in this particular fun field of photography...what the sky says can make or break a photo. I can't wait to get a DSLR to increase the quality of my images. Quite a few of my images are taken with good old 35mm and my scanner doesn't do them justice..although some of the images, I admit are kind of old and faded. I've been through your galleries before and have voted numerous times...I'm a firm believer in supporting Pbase members and using my votes to help them get more recognition for their talent.

Thanks

Hi Don - Just thought i let you know how I took the daylily picture you asked about. It was out in my flower garden and I placed a chair behind the flowers (about 1 ft behind) on which was draped my black wool winter coat (the black background). I used my Nikon D100 with a 105 macro lens and a SB-29s macro speedlight at 1/13 sec at f32. The camera was about 3 ft away from the flower for that closeup. The flash supplemented the bright sunshine .
I enjoyed looking through you galleries and particularly liked your sunset/sunrises and your favorites gallery - Ann

Hi Don,
Glad to know you are still watching my hummers pictures. Thank you for your warm comments.
To clean the mildew in your feeder, the best tool is baby's milk bottle cleaning brush, you can very easily to put it into the small hole of your feeder, the brush then spread out in the bottle...so easy. Try it out.

Hi Don, Many thanks for your return visit and comments on my shadow gallery. It is always nice to know when something hits the mark. You say you don't use bookmarks so I'm taking the liberty of posting a link here for you. I hope it works. I do have some more to post but like to put them in a whole line at a time to keep the pattern.

Hi Don,
Thanks a lot for your kind comments on my Hammers. I was not always use flash for most of the Hammers pics, reason being once I turned on the flash, the shutter speed would be automatically set not faster than 1/250s, that's a bit slow for capture the Hammer's wings movement, however if I were in extreme difficult lighting condition, I had no choice . I'm living in BC of Canada, it's not so difficult to find the Hammers in the parks, but it's a bit difficult to catch them in flight and to choose the clear and clean background to reflect the Hammers wings movements. Of course, photoshop is the good tool for me to do some montage works.
I enjoy very much for viewing your galleries, they are so amazing and so beautiful, you have done the excellent works so far and I will visit your galleries again and again.
Happy shooting!

Donald,
Thanks for interest in my Bird Self-portrait gallery. I am a retired physicist who still sees photos as data and the new camera as an opportunity to build gadgets. I look at galleries like yours to help get more of a sense of art. I have struggled with the issue of saturation in the bird photos. Procrastination has left most of the pictures dull, but sometimes more realistic - like the Red-shouldered hawks. Thanks, Mark Dreiling

Greetings, Donald!
I had a look through some of your galleries and enjoyed it thoroughly! Great compositions and artistry. You've shown a wonderful sense of the world around you! I've added you to my list of favorites. And thanks for the comments, and vote, for the recent rose image in my PaD gallery for May....much appreciated!

Regards,

Sainath

Nice photos, Don. Has anyone figured out the bird game yet? I think it's a peregrine falcon. Am I correct???
jane 10-Apr-2005 21:41
Don - wanted to email the paintings I have done of some of your photos (remember I told you - and you have taken several photos of my barn, I see!!) but your email is not posted. Please write me back so I can show you my version of your shots.

. . . That subject is a dirty word, right? Just thought I'd differ mildly with your comment on this site that you won't touch it.
. . . To my mind, PhotoShop cheating is altering the main objects in the frame -- their form or their "local" color (the paint, dye or weathering that's part of the surface).
. . . BUT I think PhotoShop right to move us closer to what we were trying to get in the frame, closer to the "real thing" that the camera didn't quite grab.
. . . Two examples. Your stunning sun behind island with fog shots came out, you said, "more yellow than I remember." I agree, and I P-Shopped them back to a more neutral tone (picking up some vague blueness in the sky) for my wallpaper. Another: Your "Maine winter" series includes a forest, pic #37448335. Pretty shot, and it's my monitor's wallpaper right now. But it had some wires running through the trees near the bottom. I define that picture as Mother Nature at work, not Ma Bell. With a few strokes, I speckled the wires with branches from nearby trees, and now it looks like nobody ever ran copper on this side of the water.
. . . I think PhotoShop is like the cops. You never like to see them, but they're handy and undeniably valuable when there's a moment of need.
. . . As ever, I find your stuff awesome in its grandeur and simplicity.

Don, Thanks for the comments on my 747/Forest fire image. I work as a pilot for a major airline and I took the shot while flying up to Anchorage Alaska this past summer. Many times during the flight we pass aircraft coming down from Anchorage into the states on the same route. The 747 happened to pass us while we were looking at the forest fire just northwest of Edmomton. It is one of my favorites! Thanks for checking it out. Really liked your albums. I grew up a Red Sox fan in CT and now I live in Chicago. The sox are out here this year to play the Cubs in June. I will be there! Greg Lipinski

Merry Christmas Donald...I was browsing the Galleries section this morning and noticed your " One Magic Morning " Gallery ( great images ) and could not help but remember a morning I had just the other day. Like you, I live in a State ( Montana ) that can and does get some very cold mornings, and if you dare brave the cold some fantastic images can be made. I invite you to visit my Website,( GLOphotography ) and view my Fog, and Winter's Canvas Galleries....keep shooting those mystical momments...a fellow photographer...Gary O

Hi Donald --
Thanks for your comment on http://www.pbase.com/plbh/image/37325158 . If you look through my galleries you'll notice I hardly ever do this kind of editing -- I mostly shoot "straight from the camera" like you, occasionally cropping but usually composing in the camera (habit from slides?). My only other photoshopped example I can think of is http://www.pbase.com/plbh/image/34018387 . Keep shooting -- I like your stuff!

hey donald,

thanks for compliment on flower pic. as to your question, in photoshop I clicked on purple in flower to choose color, then used pencil tool to outline flower, then colored rest of background. It took awhile, lol

Nice gallery by the way

Thanks for visiting my galleries and leaving your kind words. You have many excellent photos here and you have your own unique style. I'll be back to look for your updates. Happy shooting!!!

Don, Thanks for the comment on my oak tree. I was most interested in what you said about hemlocks. Here's an example of what's happened to our giant 400 year old hemlocks in Shenandoah Park.http://www.pbase.com/ed_k/image/34130064 The skeletons in this shot were beautiful hemlocks only ten years ago.

Thank you so much for the encouraging words you left in my gallery! I have spent the last several hours reviewing your galleries - WOW! I feel very honored to receive a compliment from someone as talented as yourself. Your galleries are (a repeat to one of the comments I left) - BREATHTAKING!

I have loved all aspects of photography for many years, especially viewing others works of art. I have been playing with digital photo editing for the past five years or so but just recently gotten up the courage to share with others.

Your kind words are so appreciated!

Thanks again, Renae (renaenick@bellsouth.net)

Don,

Thanks for your comments and visit to my galleries. I’m glad you ‘wrote’ because I might otherwise have missed your excellent work here. That would be my loss.

The colourful intensity and creative composition of the images speak volumes. You seem to wring the best from your subject and pour much of yourself into the end result. I really enjoyed the viewing.

Please accept my thanks for posting your pictures and my (belated) welcome to PBase. I hope you enjoy it all.

regards,
