Mare Island Naval Shipyard

Mare Island Naval Shipyard was the first United States naval station established on the Pacific Coast. The Navy purchased the original 956 acres of MINS in 1853.It`s is pressed over5,200acres.MINS was indentified for closare in 1993. Naval operations ceased and the facitity was decommissioned on April 1 1996.In May 2000 the Navy completed the transfer of a former housing called Roosevelt Terrace.Enjoy your vist here.I welcome any and all comments..

I lived on Poplar Street from 1999-2001
My two children where born there.
My son had his Bris (jewish circumcision) in the Farragut Inn.
My husband attended Touro and we were the only Jewish Family at the time and where given the job at a religious liaison from Touro College in New York.
My husband put il the mezuzah in the two buildings that were opened and we received the schools Torah Scroll.
