This was one of my favotites also. It is, I hope still trapped somewhere under my roof.
It was on canvas so if I am able to find it I might be able to save it.

The way the creases in the shirt are reflected in the background, pulling the image up and to the right is an interesting treatment. It gives the portrait a bit of movement. There is a little ambiguity in the hand covering the eyes due to the differing hue between it and the face. It adds a lot of depth, for sure, and I think it also draws the focus to the face rather than the hand. Originally, I took the photo for the opposite effect. I think this interpretation is an excellent reimagination and makes it something better than a simple recreation. Thank you for taking the time to paint this. I am flattered that it inspired you.
