Ant Plant (Myrmecodia tuberosa)

Ant Plants grow on trees, but they are epiphytes not parasites.
The hollow pits along the branches are entrances to homes provided for ants. The ants protect the Ant Plant and their waste is the plant’s food.
The Ant Plant uses the swollen tuber for storage.

Your forests support so much growth.. ants do similar things down here in the south,
we often find plants popping up where an ant nest has been... Great shot and story Don! v
