Northern Forest Grass-tree (Xanthorrhoea johnsonii)

Grass-trees commonly grow on infertile and/or skeletal soils in fire-prone vegetation. The blackened trunks of this pair, along with the scarcity of old dead leaves, show they've been burnt fairly recently. Grass-trees resprout vigorously after fire and fire often triggers them to flower.
