The landscapes of Timor-Leste (East Timor) are beautiful though that beauty can be harsh. This is the seasonal tropics where a heavy wet season alternates each year with a dry season that can be utterly rainless and last up to nine months depending on the region. The north coast of Timor-Leste receives little rain and may be the driest region in south-east Asia, whilst some locations in the mountains are moist enough to support rainforest.
These photos are from two journeys to the country, one early and one late in the dry season. Many photos are of forests, mountains and the coast, reflecting my interest in landscapes, vegetation and wild places. With the exception of the two sub-galleries, the sequence is roughly from west near the border with Indonesian West Timor east to the remote far tip of the island.
Some photos aren't as sharp and well-exposed as I would like. My excuse is that on the first trip I was travelling light and rough and took only a borrowed instamatic camera, whilst on the second my SLR broke down.
