My first trip to Maryland was when I was assigned to Coast Guard Group Baltimore at the Coast Guard Yard in Curtis Bay, just south of Baltimore, after boot camp in August 1966. I enjoyed the fall and spring but hated the cold winter and I transferred to Coast Guard Station Lake Worth Inlet in June 1967. I have been back numerous times over the years and I just love the Annapolis area, especially downtown Annapolis which is full of stores and really great restaurants right outside the main gate at the U. S. Naval Academy.
Maryland is a beautiful state in parts, especially with countless miles of waterfront property.
