Ron was Assistant Director for Operations at Miami International and he took me along to test a new faster Flight Information Display System (FIDS) computer at American Sign & Indicator in Spokane. The Gate Control section of Airside Operations ran the FIDS and the existing system choked on peak periods of the day so we needed to replace it. We had almost all day to kill before our late afternoon flight home so we went skiing.
