Isn't this the bridge Crockett & Tubbs drive over in 1984 at the very end of the first episode of Miami Vice when Crockett asks Tubbs, "Would you ever consider a career in southern law enforcement"? Of course, Tubbs does just that and becomes a regular part of this iconic 80's police show which helped put Miami back on the map.
Thank you Charlie, and Guest, for posting those great memories. Please feel free to add more if you would like because a lot of people find the old days to be very interesting, especially when written by those who lived it.

I was 5 years old when the openng day was held for this causway. My dad worked for FPL and oversaw the electrical power for the event. I went to the bridge the night before the opening so he could check everything out.

I was honored to commute to Coconut Grove School before this bridge was opened to the public, prior to Crandon Park being opened......I live at Cape Fla, with Joan Pent, her father Paul who was the caretaker for the Deering Estate there..Two other students living on Key Biscayne were the Smith children, whos father was the caretaker for the Matthison estate and then did most of the buldozer work clearing land for the park.......
