1959 - Steve Alaimo and the Redcoats

P. A. L. Dance, Bayfront Auditorium, Miami

Thank you to Jeff Levine for contributing this image of Steve Alaimo, taken by the late Ernie W. Skog. Steve performed all over Miami in the 50's and 60's and had several hit records as I recall.

Although Steve Alaimo was a hometown favorite who scored many chart hits with "Home By Eleven", "Cast Your Fate to the Wind", "Michael" and numerous others, he was only able to crack the Top-50 nationally with "Every Day I Have to Cry Some".

Still, Steve became a national favorite by co-hosting Dick Clark's afternoon music show "Where the Action Is" on ABC with Linda Scott ("I've Told Every Little Star") along with their 'house band' - none other than Paul Revere and the Raiders!

Steve also made three movies, played numerous night club engagements [including the famed Copacabana in New York] and eventually moved behind the scenes into songwriting, music production, publishing, label ownship and a recording studio.

The Allman Brothers recorded "Sweet Melissa", and Steve graciously shared half of his writing credit with Greg Allman [although an earlier recording of the tune by Steve on the Atco label clearly shows him as the sole author].

The famed "TK Sound" emanating out of Hialeah was the result of the partnership of Steve Alaimo and Henry Stone. TK Records and their sister labels (Dade, Marlin, Dash, Clouds and many others) scored hit after hit in the 70's and 80's.

The roster for TK included KC and the Sunshine Band, Betty Wright, George McCrae, Gwen McCrae, Notorious Miami, Timmy Thomas, Bobby Calwell, Peter Brown, Anita Ward, Foxy and so many more talented artists.

In 1988, Steve joined up with two brothers who were the former vice-presidents and chief engineers/producers from Miami's well-established Criteria Recording Studios - Ron and Howard Albert. Together they started Audio Vision Recording Studios and Vision Records.

Alongside a number of rap acts, Vision Records had releases by Stephen Stills, reggae superstar Jimmy Cliff and the legendary Dion DiMucci (of Dion and the Belmonts). The label had the original release of Inner Circle's "Bad Boys", which became the theme of Fox TV's "Cops"...

Steve and his parters put Vision Records on hiatus around 2000 to concentrate solely on running their recording studio - originally built for in-house use, but later booked out to others.

I worked for Steve, Ron and Howard for 7-1/2 years...
