Does anyone have the butter bean recipe they served at this restaurant?

During the 50's & early 60's, my family lived in Coral Gables & many a weekend we'd drive over to Grandma's Kitchen & I remember they had "Grandma's Chest" which had tons of little toys in it; very fond memories.

My grandmother Helen Salisbury co owned this restaurant with Bessie. I have pictures of the two iof them together. Would love to hear from Mom1940. Contact me @ sdoughty@tampabay.rr.com. There was a treasure chest in the lobby that the kids could pick from if they ate all of their dinner.

My grandmother Bessie Stewart and Jim owned the Grandma's Kitchen on 163rd Street and Collins Ave.. They then leased this property and opened the Painted Horse. I even remember General the cook!

When my parents an I moved here from Conn. in 1953, we would go there on every Sunday for dinner. When I was in High School it was the Painted Horse.

Good memory Jeff. I believe the gas station you mention was a Phillips 66 years ago. Also the trailer park you mention that became a K-Mart was Ollie's. On the east side of Biscayne Boulevard at 110 Street was a bar called the Dog House Inn. My father used to let my brother and me play the shuffle board machine while he had a few beers in the 50s.

This picture is looking Northeast along Biscayne Boulevard. Just across the street, NE 16th Avenue intersects in at an angle at NE 116th Street by the gas station (that is still there).

Next door to Grandma's Kitchen stood the Biscayne Boulevard Drive-In Restaurant. Traveling South a few blocks, you'd come to a trailer park on the West side of Biscayne. This is where they built Kmart in the 1960's.

Another (Stewart's) Grandma's Kitchen was located on the NE corner of 163rd Street and Collins Avenue on the site that became the Newport Hotel.
