Biscayne Bay off of Dinner Key, Miami, Florida

From the state archives description: "The Sikorsky S-42 was one of the earliest of the four-engine clippers used by Pan American in developing its system of global routes. The S-42 carried 32 passengers and had a gross weight of 43,000 pounds. It was used on Latin American, Atlantic and Pacific routes by the pioneer U.S. international airline."

The "Brazilian Clipper" was c/n 4200X and renamed to "Colombia Clipper" years later. Pan American used this aircraft from 1934 to 1946.

I wish I could experience flying in this clipper, or at least view any remnants of it.
With all the pleasant nostalgia, people forget that these flights were very long
and the noise that the four engines produced was ear defining.

I was ten years old in 1934 and about that time I was completely thrilled to watch one of these Pan Am ships take off at Dinner Key, in a loud of spray with the intense roar of those four engines.
