1940 - Pan American Hangars and 36th Street Terminal at Pan American Field, Miami

Pan American Field, Miami, Florida

From the state archives: "The busy Miami International Airport is shown in this aerial view with the camera pointed directly northward. The terminal building is shown on the right hand side of the photo, while the Pan Am hangars are on the left. The east-west and north west runways are shown."

The city of Miami Springs is seen beyond the hangars and city of Hialeah is further back. The hangars are still in use to this day by aviation maintenance companies. The passenger terminal on the right side was torn down in the 60's to build the Pan Am flight simulator building which is still in use training flight crews from all over the world.

I worked in those hangars starting in 1955, hangar 5 hangar 6-7 and 8 and the center section was between hanger 6 and 7 which housed the add administration offices, purchasing offices and the computer processing, along with the stockroom for issuing parts. This was a pretty good operation and we did some fine maintenance work on all of our aircraft. A,B,& C checks and modifications. I really miss those good old days .
