Building 3095 at MIA is this beautiful and highly functional combination hangar, general office building and parking garage was designed by Francis in the late 1960's for the Dade County Port Authority for use by National Airlines which had ordered widebody aircraft (B747's and DC-10's). Building 3095 was completed in the early 1970's. The corporate headquarters for National was in the eleven story office building on the south side of the hangar, along with a large parking garage, and they anchored the cantilever roof of the hangar so that all the hangar doors can be opened and there are no internal vertical support beams to hinder maintenance operations within the hangar. The hangar can accommodate 2 classic Boeing 747's and 1 DC-10 (same aircraft as seen in the photo) with the doors closed behind them.
Pan Am utilized the hangar and office building after they bought National in 1980. Pan Am died on December 4, 1991, and the hangar was vacant for several years until code enhancements were done and American Airlines leased it in the mid to late 1990's.
