Thank you to Clyde Jewett for posting this great old aerial photo on Facebook. This interchange was rare for the Palmetto Expressway because other intersections at NW 103rd Street, NW 114th Street (W. 60th Street in Hialeah), NW 122nd Street (W. 68th Street in Hialeah), NW 138th Street (W.84th Street in Hialeah), NW 154th Street (Miami Lakes Drive), the entrance to Palm Springs North, NW 67th Avenue, NW 57th Avenue, NW 47th Avenue, NW 37th Avenue, NW 27th Avenue and NW 17th Avenue were grade level intersections with stop signs, and later red lights, for the non-Palmetto traffic. The speed limit was 70 mph on the Palmetto during the daytime and people were going faster and vehicles crossing at the intersections were hazardous, especially vehicles turning onto the Palmetto and not getting up to 70 mph rapidly. I don't have the traffic fatality statistics from back in the early days of the Palmetto but there had to be a lot of deaths from the grade level intersections.
