There were always “bouncers” at the Wreck Bar. To name a few, Steve Beatty, John Colthurst, Kenny Difelippo, John Pachivas. We all know what became of Steve Beatty.

I don't believe the Wreck Bar ever had a Polynesian show with fire dancers but I could be wrong. Maybe one of the other bars at the Castaways had such a show at one time but I don't know about that either. The only Polynesian shows I can think of would be at the old South Pacific restaurant on US1 in Hallandale, the still existing Mai Kai on US1 in Ft. Lauderdale or the old Luau Polynesian restaurant on the 79th Street Causeway.

Is this the place that had a Polynesian show with fire dancers and such? ... I think my mother worked there when I was very little and somehow got us children in for a bit.

.another Bill O'Reilly lie...the Wreck Bar never had bouncers. In fact, it was generally an older crowd ( and tourists) that frequented the place. For a short while there was a 'private' type bar in the back for the younger crowd. If he worked there at all, that's probably where the draft-dodger O'Reilly was. Either way, the term bouncer wouldn't apply as the type of people that went there, were not the rowdy variety....

I remember going to the Wreck Bar which was at the Castaways on AIA!., with phony ID, in the late 60s. Located on AIA, where the action was!!!! What fun. So many places, like the Yacht South Seas off 79th Street Cswy, Pier 66 in Ft. Lauderdale, The Peppermint Lounge, Trader John's near Miami-Dade North on 27th Avenue, dances at El Portal near Miami Shores. I just found and like this site. Does anyone know or remember a blonde good looking guy named Wayne Cochran (not the White James Brown entertainer) that used to go to Trader John's? I think his family might have lived in Miramar, but not certain. If you have any hints,, please contact me, as I'd love to get in touch with him or anyone who could help me find him.
