my sister who is the mother of one of the current pilots for United Airlines & the one who secured these photos for us and I are children of one of the mechanics who worked in Jax. until 1953 & then transferred to Miami. We knew Joe Baily who was instrumental in getting my dad to come to St. Pete from where they'd both worked in Chicago, in 1939. Joe moved out of the house he was renting & left it furnished for us to rent when we went to Jax. that summer. My dad only stayed in St. Pete about six weeks before going to Jax. & we lived there until I married in 1953 & he was free to transfer to Miami! My dad was "Doc" Yaus and retired from the position he had last as a connection with Alison Air Force Base in Indianapolis, retiring about l970 in Miami, 82 S. Royal Poinciana. Both my sister & I were grown when they moved to Miami so don't know much about that city, she stayed in Jax. after divorcing her National Airlines pilot husband & I am still in Tampa. We have lots of memories brought home by my dad & remember the left over plane meals & rides with some guy named Bill in the airplanes in Jax. If anyone is as old as us, would love to hear from you.
