1954 - Atlantic gas station in the southeast corner of NW 36 Street and LeJeune Road, Miami

Miami, Florida

Thank you to Larry Martin for contributing this great old image. This gas station was across the street from Eastern Air Lines which was on the southwest corner of this busy intersection. This land is now occupied by the flyover entrance ramp to the Airport Expressway from eastbound NW 36th Street. Note the Howard Johnson's restaurant on the right side which was on the northwest corner of the intersection and was there for many years. There is now a Burger King and Office Depot on the same parcel of land.

The hangar with the letters was demolished years ago but I can't remember the exact year. It was gone long before the new runway opened which was 2003.

Don, do you know what happened to the FLY EAL letters? They were there until fairly recently.
