Say's Phoebe

Peyton, CO

One of the biggest advantages of having my Olympus micro four thirds system is the ability to conveniently have a lens with a lot of reach with me at all times even when I am not out seeking wildlife images. This is an example of that taken during a salvage yard shoot. It was taken with a 2x teleconverter for a full frame equivalent of 1,200 mm. If I had a larger full frame system, I would probably never bring a lens with this kind of reach along unless the main purpose of the outing was to get bird photos. A 600mm f4 is just too big and heavy to carry around all the time "just in case".

Proof positive that the best camera/lens is the one you have with you!

you do indeed have impressive reach with that setup, and it likely cost less than a mega-telephoto too..the result is certainly excellent..

PS I own and still use a 600mm Prime lens for my DSLR's and Mirrorless Cameras. No way is that a portable lens if you're out hiking. One can't hand hold it; so, you will need to also add in the extra weight of the tripod. You absolutely have the right idea. Tele extenders are definitely the way to go!!! I swear by them! As you have shown above, they don't degrade image quality. Again, very nice image from your Oly with its micro four thirds sensor.

I originally shot Olympus film and do agree that "smaller and lighter" definitely did have its advantages over the big two 35mm cameras of Canon and Nikon. I now use a Bridge Camera (easier to carry than extra lenses for my full frame DSLR's) for impulse shots like this. Your Oly does a superior job to any Bridge Camera. Beautiful bokeh on your shot. Beautiful clarity and image. Super image!

Great results with that combo, makes it so nice to have the capability like that.
