2006 Photo A Day

Do I consider myself a photographer? NO, I consider myself a snapper but I like taking pictures. Why start a photo-a-day gallery? Hopefully it'll make me remember my camera more often, see more photographic potential in the mundane, or at least keep my eyes open. Hopefully in the long run it'll teach me more about what my cameras are capable of, and maybe learn some of the finer (although in most cases the basic) points of photography. I use a Canon A620 (now a Canon S3) as my carry around for all occasions, but now also have a Nikon D70s with several lenses. Another Pbase member has a quote on their profile, "Buying a Nikon doesn't make you a photographer, it makes you a Nikon owner". So, I am still a snapper, but with a Nikon!!! For software I use Thumbsplus and Photoshop Elements (with NeatImage and OptikVerve) for the most flexibility. With the combination of software and cameras and what I do with pictures a more apt description for my "efforts" would be Digital Bastardiser!!!!

I like your photos. I did (or am doing) this too, on my photosite website. I don't think I'm quite as good as you!
I don't know if it's just me, but I can't read your site at all, the type is so dark, I have to highlight it.
Anyway, great job on the photos! Keep it up! Will you be doing it in 2007 as well?

There is much value in the snapshots, and so they are taken to show the bigger picture of life. But, when you set out to take the artistic shot, you have a good eye for seeing the final composition and turning it into something really interesting. I, too, consider myself to be a snapper, and hope to grow and learn more about the artistic part of photography in order to combine the two elements. You, however, are way ahead of me. Besides, you have that Nikon!!

I think you should change your thinking. You are most definitely a photographer.
A snapper doesnt usually know how to compose a great shot, you definitely know what you are doing in that respect.
We all take quick shots sometimes that turn out to be our better photos, it just shows you know how to think quick to capture the moment :)

I just bought this camera Monday and I hope I can do half as well as you do with it. I think you can call yourself a photographer and an artist!
