Fill In Wing Challenge

Rick Poole posted this challenge on the Retouching Forum at DPReview. How well can you fill in that missing piece of wing? (He had suggested using content away fill. I would just select detail from the upper wing with a feathered lasso and paste it over the empty spot and then use edit/transform/distort to fit it into place, and then use a layer mask to clean it up. What would you do?

If I could figure out, I would take a section of the right rear wing, flip it horizontally and lighten it to match the rest of the left wing.
