These photos are from the trip that I won for 2nd place in The National Audubon Contest 2009-10. It was an amazing journey into places that you would read about in a National Geographic magazine. The trip was very fast paced and more of a natural history feel than either birding or photography that demands much more time. Often, our ship was the first tourist vessel to come to port this year! We traveled through the countries of Brazil, Suriname, Guyana, Venezuela, and finally to Trinidad. Our home for two weeks was the small ship The Clelia 11, a comfortable, and well staffed vessel that has only 50 suites.
We navigated the mighty Amazon and Orinoco Rivers as well as taking more intimate rides into the smaller tributaries using Zodiac crafts.
