Cuenca is the third largest city in Ecuador, located in the highlands of Ecuador at about 8200 feet above sea level. Its full name is Santa Ana de los cuatro ríos de Cuenca. The city has cobblestone streets, lovely towering cathedrals, and marble and whitewashed buildings. El Cajas National Park, near Cuenca, is high Andean country; the elevation is up to 13,000 feet. Here there are paramo grasslands, Polylepis groves, and alpine wildflowers.
