Making a List Checking it Twice

Youngstown, NY

Last night at Old Fort Niagara, they opened the fort to a candle light visit. As it was in the 18th Century, the fort was lighted only in candle light. I tried my hardest but it was way over my head as far as getting good shots, I certainly learned a great deal and would do better the next time. It was a bunch of fun, none the less. All these folks dressed as they would have been between 1759 and 1813. The castle was filled with the smoke of real fireplaces, I learned what figgy pudding is and had a great time talking with the trappers, traders and soldiers of the period.

Please check out the other photographs at http://www.pbase.com/ofniagara/candlelight

Also, any help on taking low to no light photographs with flash without getting such a "flashy" look, please let me know. I had a reall hard time focusing with the D30. I didn't learn later that I could have taken it out of evaluative metering and made my life easier. I think it would be really cool to know how to get good images out of conditions like that.

Canon EOS D30
3s f/5.6 at 55.0mm iso400 full exif

other sizes: small medium large auto

In my opinion this is a very nice image, I know how hard it is to get shoots in this light conditon. I think is cool that the people who manage this fort, allowed you to use your tripod inside.
Perhaps the only thing here is the noise in the photo because the Iso 400. I don´t know so much about aking photos with this light condition, but I´ll be checking this photo trying to read the messages in your photo and learn with you :-)

I would love to spend an evening like this. I love history of my countries early years of white settlement & that part of yours would be an interesting phase too.
