June,..That structure is the water intake, which fed water to the pumping station located at the foot of Porter Ave. The intake is a very massive structure, in order to keep it from being damaged by the ice flowing from Lake Erie, into the Niagara River. I don't know if it's still in use,..but it was, into the 60's. John Carleton

Very effective Don. I was born in Hamburg in 1961 but had to move to Blackpool, England when I was 7. These pictures take me back to happier times. I especially like this cold water one. It reminds me of the water gatehouse on the lake near where we lived.
