IMG_1543_100 watt-second main.jpg

black background, two light set-up

This is lighted by a 36x48" tall Photoflex softbox in tall orientation, supported by a boom stand camera right, with a Brown Line M11 flash head set to deliver 100 watt-seconds. On the shadow side of the picture I am using a LightForm brand 4x6 foot white fabric reflector on a roller base stand, and I am also firing an accent light consisting of a Brown Line M11 flash head fitted with an 11.5 inch reflector fitted with a snap-in Speedotron honeycomb grid and a snap-on mylar diffuser and a 2-way bardoors placed right next to the paper roll's left end, about eight feet high, and aimed right at the sitter's hair and shoulder on the shadowed side of the photo. One barn door cuts down the light on the sitter to a very small, weak amount that just delineates the top of the hair on the shadow side and the other door is open, which throws just a tiny hint of light onto the black paper, which keeps the backdrop's density a little bit above black,to ensure that the shoulder and hair stand out a small amount. This is a two-light,one-reflector portrait setup that works well for me.
