Civil War Orphan

Gettysburg, PA

This was taken at “The Soldiers National Museum” which was the original site
of “The National Soldiers Orphan’s Homestead”.
Orphan’s Motto: “God Bless Our Home 1866-1877”
The following excerpt taken from a flyer from the Soldiers National Museum:
"One of the end results of the Civil War was the loss of 675,000 soldiers
who left families behind.
There was a need to house, clothe, educate and care for thousands of
orphaned children and the tragic story of the National Soldiers Orphans Homestead
at Gettysburg has its roots from that war."

Powerful image and message; better if someone could get the child out of the hole rather than drop money into it. Wonderful composition.

Nice picture, Deborah. The control of the light is perfect.
Best regards

Sad story that seems to follow every war, no matter what
continent or what era. Always the children who bear the
brunt of loss in the long run...

PS: Yes, he does look a little like Chucky but I'm sure they
had good intentions when they bought that prop from
the Hollywood movie down to Gettysburg.

Great message, but I swear he looks like Chucky from those horror movies!
