Note to self for future events: best compromise seems to be shooting jpegs (for burst speed) with tungsten white balance and using tripod as brace only (don't connect camera; you get additional support but complete freedom of movement). Using 80-200 from back of theater works okay and allows burst shooting without bothering other attendees, but compresses images. Next time, try to get closer with a shorter, even faster lens to narrow the depth of field and throw backgrounds farther out of focus. NOTE UPDATE: shorter lens will increase depth of field; instead, look into lenses with more pleasing bokeh.
