SINGIN THE 60's...Go-Go Boots, Love Beads, and Other Blasts from the Past Defined an Era.
“Singin’ the 60’s: Music That Twisted, Rocked, and Spoke Its Mind!” rolls into the Z. Alexander Looby Theater next month with an entire decade of oldies but goodies on the program. Sponsored by Metro Parks and Arts in the Parks, this funny and energetic musical revue is performed by the talented youth from the department’s Young Performers Program. The play gives the audience a glimpse through a kaleidoscope of music that defined a generation.
They cover the early 60’s dance&craze hits, the Beatles, the Rat Pack songs, the great rock tunes, Broadway’s smash hits of the decade, all of it!” Classic gems that appear in the show, including: Up, Up and Away, It’s My Party, For Once in My Life, Peppermint Twist, Abraham, Martin and John, Surfin’ USA, Born to Be Wild, and more. The show’s fast paced revue format allows room for comedic salutes to 60’s greats like Laugh In, and even some lighthearted spoofing of the game shows and commercials of the era. Performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. July 9, 10, 15, 16 and 17; with a 2 p.m. Sunday performance on July 11.
