Someone asked if it was ever called "Paris After Dark?" Yes it was. I have vivid memories. It had two man metal cars on a train track that would follow closely the car in front. The front of the car would slam black wooden doors open, which would slam shut after your car skirted through. Then it would jerk you around into flashing exhibits like a skeleton, or even a ghoulish looking man sawing a naked woman in half, and as I remember from her crotch upwards--not side to side, with red paint on the blade. It smelled musty inside and was completely dark except for the exhibits. There were two floors and two open track passages in between the floors. No matter what you were doing in there hitting or kicking the exhibits or even spitting on them, when those doors swung open and your car raced to the next level you had to sit down and behave because the person running the ride would see you. Great memories--thank you for this!

What's left of the building was still there the last time I went. It was greatly reduced in size and painted white. The hill where the Skyliner was is still there. I was always terrified of the haunted house as a kid and never would go on it. Those doors would slam open and kids would scream as it whirled around and slammed back into another set of doors and disappeared. That was amazement to a small child.

Thank you Mike, wish I had known that years ago. I actually went back there probably 15 years ago to look around. I don't recall seeing anything that looked like The Haunted House, but may have just not realized it. Also was this ride called Paris after Dark at one time? And, was there not a large Vampire painted on the wall under the overhang?

Love finding your pic. I specifically remember the slamming doors.the clacking track, and an old dilapidated exhibit of a woman i think getting cut in half by a big giant table saw.

Hey Greenlawler, I noticed nobody has answered your question since 2008. For years after Fair Park closed, the building that was the haunted house was painted white and was used by the fairgrounds for storage. What was stored inside I don't know. It looked like a normal building outside with no or few windows, I'm sure it was gutted inside of all the track. As I remember it was the very last remnant standing of Fair Park but I'm guessing 10 years ago it was torn down. This area is now a monthly flea market and the grounds that were once Fair Park are now parking lots.

Avonda...really? Really, honey? You can't honestly believe this actually happened. I mean, not really, right? Tell me it ain't so!

I have a question. Someone said that A man escaped Central State Sanitarium and hid out in the Haunted House ride at Fair park and decapitated a small child. I don't remember hearing this story. Do you know if this is true or not?

Every summer I would visit my family in Nashville and Fair Park was the first place I wanted to go. So great to see these images. Loved the Haunted House

This was my First Job Ever, I use to work/operate this ride along with the games. So many memories of this photo. I met my first Love while working here. She worked within walking distance and would hang out until I got off from work, and we would hold hands as I walked her back home. THOSE were the Good Ole' Days.

I was always terrified just looking at this from the outside. I vividly remember the doors that opened up showing a witch or some creepy creature. This is the best. Love all the pictures.

When I was a kid this was the BEST! We saved RC caps all year for a GREAT FREE TRIP to Fair Park!

Did they tear this down or is it somewhere today?
