This one is for all the folk who don't use DSLRs and think 'how soft' about normal pro standard pix from DSLRs! It is also suitable for printing. It is a conversion from raw using a Strong Contrast curve, plus sharpening set to maximum. Saturation has NOT been increased, and exposure has been carefully adjusted to produce pure white without clipping important highlights. The file has then been unsharp masked for inkjet printing. This file is totally unacceptable for professional client or photo library use; it breaks the rules by adding 'snap' and visual sharpness, but in the process, tonal information is lost and truly fine detail is actually removed. You will also see that unfocused areas, where the shallow depth of field runs out, look rather unpleasant.
But there keep being comments that the 'camera is soft' or whatever, and this is simply not true; the everyday user will be free to set Vivid sRGB, max contrast, max saturation and max sharpness and get sRGB JPEGs straight out the box rather like this. Professionals will generally set -2 sharpness, -2 contrast, normal saturation and AdobeRGB - to allow maximum scope for later adjustment.
