Turning away from the monument, a stone stepway leads down to the shore. At low tide, the rocky
outcrop just off shore is linked to the beach. We can make out a small stone plinth (bearing yet
another plaque) which, according to Endeavour's log, marks the place where Cook actually stepped
from the long boat.
