Having never walked past a shipping container terminal before, I was unprepared for the sheer number
of containers stacked high as they were. I do not know if they were full or empty. If they were full,
I despair for the owners of their contents, which seem to be a long time in transit. If they are empty
(as I suspect) it may be a sad commentary on the balance of trade - in the matter of items transported
by container, anyway. Containers must enter this country full of Asian goods. They then must be emptied
and returned to Port Botany for lease by exporters who can never utilise their number. So, do they
just stack up and up forever?
