WCS1003.jpg

Sometimes new buildings (designed to fit in with The Rocks' surroundings) are allowed where they
are replacing relatively new structures with no heritage significance (say from the 1960s). Some
modern structures feature replica or original facades of earlier periods. Often building sites
become archeological digs when historic foundations or cobblestone pathways are unearthed during
construction. In such cases, architects and engineers are usually required to preserve the artifacts
in situ, designing the new structure so that the finds are not disturbed.

So much history, David, it's wonderful to know so much has been preserved.
